The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the re-employment of Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra as the Director General of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for an additional two years beyond his retirement date of August 31, 2025.
Dubbed the “Cyclone Man of India” for his accurate predictions of devastating cyclones like Fani and Amphan, Dr. Mohapatra’s expertise has been deemed indispensable amid a surge in extreme weather events.
