The Special Crime Unit of the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police apprehended a suspect in possession of a significant cache of firearms and ammunition.
The operation, conducted near Dhatili Junction in Bhubaneswar at approximately 5:00 AM, led to the seizure of 10 semi-automatic pistols, 18 rounds of live ammunition, 10 magazines, a mobile phone, and a red Pulsar motorcycle.
The arrested individual, identified as Shaikh Nadim (age 31), son of Shaikh Hakim from village Aradakiri under Krushna Nandapur Police Station in Jagatsinghpur district, had been under surveillance for nearly a month. Acting on a specific intelligence tip-off, a team led by City CP Anup Panigrahi intercepted Nadim while he was en route from Puri, allegedly attempting to sell the weapons to local dealers.
Upon search, officers recovered a blue rucksack containing the firearms and ammunition. The suspect is currently in custody and undergoing interrogation to uncover further details about the supply chain, financial backers, and any broader criminal networks involved.
Police officials confirmed that Nadim has been linked to at least five other criminal cases, which are currently under verification. The operation underscores the Commissionerate Police’s commitment to dismantling illegal arms networks and ensuring public safety.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity related to firearms or criminal behavior. Informants can contact the Special Crime Unit at 0874-2916383 between 10 AM and 8 PM. All identities will be kept strictly confidential.
