IIT Bhubaneswar has joined forces with Numeros Motors, an OEM specializing in electric mobility solutions, to develop rare earth-free motor technologies.
This collaboration aims to reduce India’s dependence on imported rare earth minerals while fostering indigenous innovation in the electric vehicle (EV) sector.
The two-year research initiative will focus on designing cost-effective and efficient motor systems that align with India’s clean mobility goals. The project is expected to transform the EV industry by making motor components more sustainable and affordable.
Speaking on the partnership, Prof. Shreepad Karmalkar, Director of IIT Bhubaneswar, emphasised the importance of industry-academia collaboration in advancing sustainable EV technologies. Mr. Shreyas Shibulal, CEO of Numeros Motors, highlighted the significance of rare-earth-free motor solutions in reducing costs and enhancing India’s self-reliance in EV manufacturing.
This initiative reinforces India’s commitment to green mobility, with hopes of accelerating the country’s transition to a more sustainable future.
