The 16th edition of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2025 unfolded as a dazzling celebration of cinematic brilliance, spotlighting the finest talents from India’s film industry.
Director Neeraj Ghaywan’s poignant drama Homebound, starring Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor, emerged as the festival’s crowning jewel, clinching both Best Film and Best Director. The film’s emotional depth and narrative finesse have made it one of the most talked-about releases of the year.
Bollywood icon Aamir Khan was honoured with the prestigious Excellence in Cinema Award, acknowledging his decades-long contribution to Indian cinema. In his heartfelt acceptance speech, Khan credited his collaborators and audiences, calling filmmaking “a collaborative art.”
Abhishek Bachchan won Best Actor (Male) for I Want to Talk, while Geetha Kailasam took home Best Actor (Female) for Angammal. Veteran actor Arvind Swamy received the Leadership in Cinema Award, reinforcing his reputation for embracing challenging roles.
The festival also recognised emerging voices and diverse narratives, with awards for Best Indie Film (Angammal), Best Series (Black Warrant), and standout performances in OTT content.
As IFFM 2025 continues through August 24, the festival remains a vital platform for showcasing Indian storytelling to global audiences.
