Thieves struck Puri’s Bali Kapileswar Temple and stole idols of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati along with the temple’s donation box.
The incident came to light early Tuesday morning when priests and sevayats opened the sanctum and discovered the idols missing. Shocked devotees immediately informed local residents, who then alerted police. Officers from Sadar Police Station reached the temple and began an investigation.
Police teams started examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area to trace the culprits and identify their escape route. Officials confirmed that the investigation would continue until the suspects are caught.
The theft created panic in the locality and left devotees deeply saddened. Residents demanded swift action and stronger security measures for temples. Authorities assured that efforts are underway to track down the criminals.
The Balikapileswar Temple holds cultural and spiritual importance in Puri. The theft of idols and the hundi raised serious concerns about rising temple thefts across Odisha. Devotees urged police to intensify patrolling and ensure better protection of religious sites.
