Security forces in South Kashmir demolished the residences of three more suspected terrorists, raising the total number of homes razed to nine since the deadly Pahalgam terror attack on April 22 that killed 26 people, officials said on Sunday.
The latest demolitions took place during the intervening night of April 26-27, targeting the homes of Adnan Shafi Dar in Shopian’s Zainapora, Amir Nazir in Pulwama’s Daramdora, and Jameel Ahmad in Bandipora’s Naz Colony.
According to officials, all three suspects were linked to the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror outfit, with Dar reportedly affiliated with its offshoot The Resistance Front (TRF), which has claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam attack. Ahmad has allegedly been operating from Pakistan since 2017.
The crackdown has sparked sharp political reactions within Jammu & Kashmir. Chief minister Omar Abdullah supported strong action against terrorists but cautioned against any moves that might alienate the public. Former CM and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti stressed the need to carefully differentiate between civilians and terrorists during such operations.
Meanwhile, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the probe into the Pahalgam terror attack as security forces continue their counter-terror efforts across the region.
