In a high-risk incident during the ongoing flood crisis in the Mahanadi River, a high-voltage electric wire accidentally slipped from a technician’s hands and plunged into the turbulent waters near Baranga Block in Cuttack district.
The wire meant for repair work across the river stretch between Munduli and Talagada village was swept away by the current, causing immediate concern among locals.
Witnesses reported a surge of panic as news of the mishap spread through the flood-affected region. Responding swiftly, teams from Baranga Police, the Fire Department, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) coordinated a recovery mission. Using four rescue boats, the teams successfully retrieved the wire and ensured the safety of personnel and residents.
Technicians later scaled the tower under extremely challenging conditions to complete the repairs, restoring the high-voltage connection. Their efforts earned praise from the administration and reassured the flood-stricken community.
