Continuous heavy rainfall over the past two days, triggered by a low-pressure system, has disrupted normal life across Nuapada district.
In Ward No. 5 of Nuapada NAC, rainwater has accumulated in the lane from contractor Swagat Joshi’s house to journalist Dennis Rai’s residence, causing severe inconvenience for residents. Locals allege that the absence of proper drainage facilities has resulted in water stagnation on the concrete road, leading to water entering homes.
Residents of Ward No. 5 have criticised the Nuapada NAC authorities for failing to address the issue despite repeated complaints.
Similar problems were reported from Ward No. 10 in Fokatpada, where many poor and vulnerable families live. Rainwater entered several houses and even flooded the local Anganwadi centre, forcing children to stay away. Locals were seen manually draining water out of their homes.
Residents including Fakirsethi, Makar Dandaseina, Laxmi Bariha, and Ram Sethi reported flooding inside their homes. They have demanded urgent action from the NAC authorities to resolve the waterlogging issue. However, despite being informed, no municipal staff has yet visited the affected areas, residents alleged.
