Gulveer Singh made history at the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships by securing India’s first gold medal in the men’s 10,000m event.
With a remarkable finish time of 28:38.63, Singh outpaced Bahrain’s Albert Kibichi Rop in a thrilling final lap, cementing his name alongside Indian track legends Hari Chand (1975) and G. Lakshmanan (2017).
Holding the national record in the event (27:00.22), Singh maintained steady momentum throughout the race before surging ahead in a decisive move. His achievement not only marks India’s continued excellence in distance running but also adds to his individual legacy, complementing his 5000m bronze from the 2023 edition.
India’s Sawan Barwal also displayed an impressive performance, finishing fourth with a time of 28:50.53.
This victory sets an encouraging tone for India’s campaign at the Asian Athletics Championships, fueling hopes for further podium finishes.
