Rourkela: At least four employees succumbed to death while several employees were taken ill following the leakage of toxic gas at the Coal Chemical Department of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) here in the morning.
The incident took place today morning when dozens of employees were engaged at the Coal Chemical Department on premises of the RSP.
According to reports, it is suspected that employees were exposed to gas leak after a crack developed in a valve here. The reason for the accident has not yet been ascertained.
On receiving information, the senior officials of RSP reached the site and initiated a probe to ascertain the cause of the gas leak.
Reportedly, the ill employees have been admitted to Ispat General Hospital (IGH), while the critical employees have been taken into the ICU in order to avoid any risk to their health, sources said. Four of the employees later succumbed while undergoing treatment at the hospital, sources added.
