Odisha will host a landmark two-day national-level workshop under the GARIMA initiative on July 26–27, 2025, at the State Convention Centre, Bhubaneswar.
Organised by the Housing and Urban Development Department, Government of Odisha, in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, and the Urban Management Centre, the workshop aims to celebrate and elevate the contributions of India’s core sanitation workforce.
The event will bring together experts, policymakers, sanitation workers, and reformers for dialogues, demonstrations, and knowledge-sharing on policy frameworks that ensure better working conditions, social safety nets, and visibility for sanitation professionals.
GARIMA, Odisha’s flagship initiative, has championed structural reform in sanitation governance by advocating safer and more inclusive labour practices. The upcoming workshop hopes to replicate this successful model across states.
Senior officials confirmed that the event will also showcase lived experiences, best practices, and community-led innovations to empower frontline workers.
