Semiliguda: Sunabeda Police in Koraput district seized over 12 quintals of ganja, which was being smuggled in a banana-laden truck, on the National Highway-26 and arrested two persons.
Acting on reliable inputs, a patrolling team led by Sunabeda police station IIC Pradyumna Kumar Mohapatra intercepted the truck near Mohanpada Chhak yesterday. During the search, cannabis weighing around 12.07 quintal packed in large gunny bags was recovered from under the banana bunches.
The ganja consignment was being smuggled from Jalaput to Bihar. Two persons identified as Rajiv Kumar Mahato (19) of Bokaro area in Jharkhand and Raman Kumar Raut (33) from Bihar have been arrested and Rs 12,150 was seized from them, informed Sunabeda PS IIC.
The estimated market value of seized contraband is 1.02 crore. Sunabeda police have registered a case (91/21) and forwarded the accused duo to the court.
Earlier today, Chandrapur police in Rayagada district seized cannabis worth around Rs 1 crore from a forest near Rabguda and arrested three persons in this connection.
