Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway, the eldest daughter of Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit, has publicly addressed the sexual assault allegations against her half-brother, Marius Borg Hoiby, marking the first time she has commented on the case.
As the future queen of Norway, Ingrid Alexandra acknowledged the emotional toll the allegations have taken on the royal family.
Background on the Case
Earlier this year, Marius Borg Hoiby, 28, was charged with 32 crimes, including four counts of rape, domestic violence, and assault, targeting ex-girlfriends and other victims. Hoiby, the son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit from a previous relationship before her marriage to Crown Prince Haakon, was arrested on August 4, 2024, after allegedly assaulting a woman.
Hoiby has admitted to acts of violence in some cases but has denied the other charges, according to his legal team.
Princess Ingrid Alexandra Speaks Out
In an interview with Norwegian outlet NRK published on November 2, Princess Ingrid Alexandra shared:
“Of course it’s difficult. Both for those of us who are around, for me as a sister and for mom and dad. And of course for everyone affected by the case.”
The interview coincided with Ingrid Alexandra starting her studies at the University of Sydney, Australia, highlighting the challenges of being away from home during such a difficult time. When asked about her experience being away, she said:
“Yes, it is… I don’t know if I want to go into it much more than that.”
The royal family has largely remained private about the legal proceedings, making Ingrid Alexandra’s statement a rare and significant acknowledgment of the personal impact of the case.
