The much-anticipated redevelopment of Bhubaneswar Railway Station is nearing its first milestone, with Phase 1 set to be inaugurated in October 2025, according to plans by the Ministry of Railways.
Both the east and west sides of the station are progressing rapidly, with modern infrastructure designed to rival international standards.
The station will feature airport-like amenities, including a 108-meter-long air concourse connecting both sides, paid lounges, food courts, wide footbridges, and accessible infrastructure for differently-abled passengers. With a capacity to handle over 1 lakh daily passengers, the revamped station is poised to become a major transportation hub in Odisha.
Security measures, including CCTV surveillance and luggage scanners, as well as provisions for electric vehicle charging, are being integrated to enhance commuter safety and convenience. The overall redevelopment project is estimated to cost ₹398 crore, with plans to add commercial spaces and an elevated road system.
Phase 2 will include the completion of the G+11 structure on the west side, setting a new benchmark for railway stations across India.
