Berhampur’s MKCG Medical College has once again come under the scanner following fresh allegations of ragging. A second-year MBBS student has lodged a complaint accusing a group of seniors of subjecting him to harassment and intimidation inside the hostel premises.
According to the victim, the seniors allegedly prevented him from studying in the hostel and compelled him to attend so-called “general body meetings.” During these gatherings, juniors were reportedly made to stand for hours, and in cases of resistance, forced into stressful squatting positions as a form of punishment.
The situation escalated on August 18, when the student claimed he was subjected to severe mental and physical harassment. A day later, after refusing to attend another meeting, a group of seniors allegedly stormed into the hostel, hurled abuses, and issued threats.
The complaint further alleges that around six to seven seniors are repeatedly involved in harassment. These students are also accused of regularly consuming beer, playing loud DJ music, and dancing inside the hostel, creating disturbances that disrupted the academic environment for others.
Following the complaint, the matter was reported to the National Medical Commission (NMC), which has forwarded a letter to the Dean of MKCG Medical College. The college administration has confirmed that the Anti-Ragging Cell will convene a meeting to examine the allegations and recommend appropriate action.
