The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday forecast that a new low-pressure system is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal after August 27, triggering another spell of heavy rainfall across Odisha.
The system is expected to bring heavy to very heavy showers in north and interior Odisha, the weather office said.
Currently, several districts continue to reel under rains from the existing low-pressure area. An orange warning has been issued for Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Sundargarh, and Jharsuguda, where intense rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds are likely in the coming days.
The IMD also issued a yellow warning for the remaining districts, indicating moderate rain and thunder activity.
Residents have been cautioned about the risk of waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and rising river and canal levels. Thunderstorms may bring wind speeds up to 30 kmph, with possible damage to weak structures and trees. Lightning strikes may intensify, the IMD warned, urging people to avoid open areas during heavy downpours.
Authorities have advised farmers to safeguard standing crops, while district administrations have been directed to remain prepared for emergency situations.
