The Special Judge, Vigilance, Angul, convicted Pabitra Mohan Nayak, Former Divisional Manager of IDCO, Angul (Retired), for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a relative of a lessee.
Odisha Vigilance charged Nayak under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(d)/7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Investigators established that Nayak demanded the bribe to provide a favourable report for the continuance of a lease at Mahisapata Industrial Estate, Dhenkanal. The lessee had earlier received allotment of a shed at the estate, and Nayak used his position to exploit the situation.
The Vigilance Court found Nayak guilty and sentenced him to two years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine. The conviction marked a significant step in Odisha Vigilance’s ongoing campaign against corruption in public offices.
Officials confirmed that Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority to stop Nayak’s pension benefits following his conviction. This measure aims to ensure accountability and prevent convicted officials from continuing to enjoy government privileges.
