A tragic road accident on the Berhampur–Haladiapada overbridge claimed five lives and left one person critically injured on Saturday afternoon.
According to police, a speeding goods-laden truck coming from the Gosain Nuagaon side rammed into three motorcycles approaching from Haladiapada. The impact was so severe that five riders died on the spot, while one critically injured victim was rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital. Doctors described his condition as extremely serious.
Police from Gosain Nuagaon reached the accident site, seized the bodies, and sent them for post-mortem. The collision caused traffic to halt completely, leading to a jam on the busy stretch. Officers later restored normal movement after controlling the situation.
Eyewitnesses reported reckless driving by the truck driver, who fled immediately after the accident. Police have launched a manhunt to trace him.
