The Superintendent of Police (SP) in Balasore has suspended five officers—one havildar and four constables—over allegations of dereliction of duty.
According to sources, the officers were assigned to a security detail at the residence of the Balasore District Collector. However, reports indicate they neglected their responsibilities by attending a colleague’s birthday celebration three days ago. Further allegations suggest involvement in unspecified illegal activities.
A senior police official, speaking anonymously, stated, “No one is above duty, especially at sensitive government installations. Laxity will not be tolerated.”
An internal inquiry has been initiated to determine the full extent of negligence and any potential administrative or legal consequences. This development underscores the Odisha Police Department’s commitment to maintaining professionalism and accountability among its ranks.
