Mumbai has reported its first death due to Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) amid an ongoing outbreak in Maharashtra.
A 53-year-old patient from Nair Hospital succumbed to the illness, bringing the total number of suspected GBS-related deaths in the state to eight.
Pune district has been the hardest hit, with 197 suspected and confirmed cases, including 92 from newly incorporated villages in the PMC area.
Health officials are closely monitoring the situation, with 50 patients currently in ICU and 20 on ventilator support.
The outbreak has raised concerns, and the health department is working on containment measures.
