A storm of controversy has erupted over Ullu App’s reality show House Arrest, after a clip from the series went viral on social media for its explicit content.
In response, the National Commission for Women (NCW) on Friday summoned actor Ajaz Khan and Ullu App CEO Vibhu Agarwal, seeking explanation over the show’s objectionable portrayal of women and its potentially harmful impact on viewers.
Some video clips of House Arrest being circulated on social media allegedly show Ajaz Khan forcing contestants, including women, to perform intimate situations. He is also alleged to have asked the participants uncomfortable questions.
The complainant alleged that the web show contained “obscene language” and hosted acts which outraged the modesty of women. “The complainant mentioned that he received several complaints about the vulgar content of the show and that many people sent personal messages to him to complain about it,” the official added.
The backlash intensified after Maharashtra BJP MLC Chitra Wagh on Thursday demanded an immediate ban on the show, calling it “vulgar” and “socially corrosive.” She also appealed to Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to crack down on mobile platforms that host and promote similar content.
“Ajaz Khan, who calls himself an actor, has created a show called House Arrest, which is nothing but the epitome of obscenity. Clips from this show are now circulating freely online and are extremely vulgar,” Wagh stated.
The NCW has expressed serious concerns over the exploitation of women in such digital content and emphasized the need for stringent regulations on OTT platforms.
