The Odisha Legislative Assembly witnessed yet another day of disruption as BJD legislators created a ruckus over the fertilizer shortage issue, forcing Speaker Surama Padhy to adjourn the House till Monday.
The uproar began shortly after the House convened for the day’s proceedings, with BJD MLAs storming into the well of the House, raising slogans and displaying placards demanding a full-fledged discussion on the alleged scarcity of fertilizers during the ongoing kharif season. The protest echoed concerns from farmers across the state, who have reportedly been struggling due to black marketing and supply delays.
Despite repeated appeals from the Speaker to maintain order, the disruptions continued, leaving the House unable to transact any meaningful business. The Speaker eventually adjourned the session until September 22, marking the third consecutive day of stalled proceedings.
Outside the Assembly, BJD leaders defended their protest, stating that the government’s indifference to farmers’ plight warranted immediate attention. Meanwhile, BJP and Congress leaders traded accusations, with Congress alleging a tacit understanding between the two parties to avoid debating the no-confidence motion, and BJP accusing BJD of seeking publicity through theatrics.
