Farmer organisations in Padmapur, Bargarh district, enforced a 12-hour shutdown today to press for seven demands related to paddy procurement, including token system management and fair target allocation.
As a result of the bandh, shops remained closed and vehicular movement came to a standstill across the region. The protest reflected growing anger among farmers over long-standing problems in the mandi system and delays in procurement.
Farmers expressed dissatisfaction with the current token system and demanded proper regulation, fair targets, and resolution of other procurement-related issues. Leaders warned that the agitation would continue until authorities addressed their concerns.
Meanwhile, the shutdown disrupted normal life in Padmapur. Local residents faced difficulties due to the closure of markets and restrictions on transport.
The administration kept a close watch on the situation and deployed measures to maintain peace and order. Officials assured that discussions with farmer groups would continue to find a solution.
