A tragic accident occurred in Katuria village under Sarat police limits when a youth died after being trapped by a falling tree branch.
The victim, identified as Kuara Hansda (32) of Sandei village, had climbed a tree to cut branches in a local resident’s yard.
While cutting one branch, another heavy branch suddenly fell on him, pinning him against the tree. Witnesses reported that he remained trapped nearly 20 feet above the ground for about an hour. Locals immediately alerted the fire service team from Kaptipada, who reached the spot and rescued him.
Rescuers rushed Hansda to Udala hospital for treatment. Doctors declared him dead upon arrival. Police confirmed that the incident took place during routine tree-cutting work and have begun investigating the circumstances.
Residents expressed shock at the accident, describing it as an unforeseen tragedy. Authorities suspect negligence and unsafe practices during tree-cutting contributed to the mishap.
