Nabarangpur district authorities arrested five liquor traders during a series of raids on Wednesday.
Acting under the instructions of District Collector Dr Maheshwar Swain and Excise Superintendent Pratap Kumar Das, Excise Inspector Dillip Kumar Rath supervised the operations.
To begin with, Excise Officer Ashesh Kumar Nayak led the raid at Semiliguda village, where officials seized 19 litres of illicit country liquor from a woman trader. Soon after, in Janaki Nagar, another woman was caught with 17 litres of hand-brewed liquor. Moreover, officials destroyed 100 litres of fermented wash and 20 litres of hot wash at the spot. Following the seizure, authorities produced the two accused in court.
Next, excise officials raided Fataguda village under Khatiguda police limits and seized 17 litres of hand-brewed liquor from a woman trader. In addition, they confiscated 22 litres of illicit liquor from another trader in Khanduguda village. Meanwhile, in Modinayakguda village under Kodigaon police limits, officials seized 24 litres of country liquor from a male accused and sent him to court.
Finally, the raids concluded with strong support from excise sub-inspector Keelada Bhaskar and staff members Ranjit Jani, Risima Kumari Suna, Sudhanshu Sekhar Bagh, Umesh Harijan, Sadashiv Bhatra, and Akram Khan.
