The Excise Department today busted a fake foreign liquor racket operating in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district.
Acting on a tip-off, officials raided a residence in Katrapada Sahi, Kandarasingha village, under the Parajanga block. The operation led to the seizure of a substantial quantity of counterfeit foreign liquor, along with branding stickers for various popular labels, machinery, and other equipment used in the production and packaging process.
During the raid, authorities detained a woman suspected of involvement in the illegal activity. However, her husband, also believed to be linked to the operation, managed to escape from the scene.
The Excise Department is currently investigating the matter further to trace the fugitive and uncover any larger networks involved in the distribution of fake alcohol in the region. This bust highlights ongoing efforts to curb the menace of spurious liquor, which poses serious health risks to consumers.
Officials have not disclosed the exact value of the seized items or additional details about the couple’s identities, but the operation is seen as a step forward in combating organised counterfeit liquor rackets in rural areas.
