In a major breakthrough in the investigation into illegal gambling activities, Odisha police have arrested Govind Singhania, a former business associate of late Odisha Health Minister Naba Das.
Singhania was taken into custody in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, after being traced as a key suspect in a sprawling gambling network.
The arrest follows a police raid on April 16 in the Jhareshwar Temple area under Jharsuguda Town Police jurisdiction, where several individuals were apprehended for involvement in a gambling ring. During questioning, multiple detainees provided crucial information linking Singhania to the operation.
Authorities suspect this case may be the tip of the iceberg, with deeper financial and political connections yet to be uncovered. Police officials stated that further investigations would continue to determine if other influential figures were involved.
“This arrest was based on strong evidence gathered from the interrogation of arrested individuals. We are expanding our probe to identify other key operatives within this gambling network,” said Umashankar Singh, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Jharsuguda.
As more details emerge, the case is expected to send shockwaves across political and business circles in Odisha.
