Starlink, Elon Musk’s satellite internet venture, has received a satellite communication (satcom) licence from India’s Department of Telecommunications (DoT), according to sources cited by the Press Trust of India (PTI).
With this approval, Starlink becomes the third company to secure a satcom licence in India, joining the race to provide satellite-based internet services across the country.
DoT officials confirmed that Starlink will be eligible for trial spectrum within 15 to 20 days of submitting the application, a key step before full-scale commercial rollout.
Starlink aims to offer high-speed internet in remote and rural areas using its low-Earth orbit satellite network, potentially boosting India’s digital infrastructure.
