The body of a 65-year-old woman was found hanging inside her home in Kendubahar village under Dharambandha Police Station in Nuapada district.
The deceased, identified as Kamala Raut, was discovered by local residents in a suspicious condition, prompting speculation of murder disguised as suicide.
According to sources, villagers spotted Kamala Raut hanging inside her residence and immediately alerted the police. Her son-in-law filed a formal complaint with Dharambandha Police, raising doubts about the nature of her death.
Police reached the scene and recovered the body in the presence of family members. A case has been registered, and the body was sent to Nuapada District Hospital for post-mortem examination. The autopsy report is awaited to determine the exact cause of death.
ASI Jitendra Pradhan of Dharambandha Police Station stated that the circumstances surrounding the death remain mysterious, and clarity will emerge only after the medical report is received. Meanwhile, discussions in the village suggest that Kamala Rout may have been murdered and the scene staged to resemble a suicide.
The investigation is ongoing, and police have assured that all angles will be thoroughly examined.
