A 60-year-old man was tragically killed in an elephant attack in Koradapashi village under the Kundheigola forest section of Reamal range in Deogarh district.
The deceased, identified as Kuhla Nayak, was attacked while visiting a nearby forest area.
Local residents immediately alerted forest officials and police. Responding to the call, Range Officer Niranjan Dharua, Forester Manmath Behera, Kundheigola Police Officer Jan Kujur, and other forest personnel reached the site and recovered the body. A post-mortem was conducted at the Chandipada Community Health Centre.
Reports indicate that a herd of elephants has been causing widespread damage in the region over the past few days. The Forest Department has initiated procedures to provide government compensation to the victim’s family.
Locals have raised concerns over repeated elephant attacks in the area and are demanding that the herd be tranquilized and relocated to prevent further loss of life.
