A man was reportedly killed after being hit by an unknown vehicle on NH 59 at Manik Nagar Chhak under Hinjilicut Police limits in Ganjam district on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Abhimanyu Prusty (70), of Rajatota Sahi.
According to the information, Prusty was going from his house to open his breakfast shop at Cinemahall Square at around 5 am on Sunday. While he was crossing the road at Maniknagar Square, a vehicle hit him and sped away from the scene. His body was cut into pieces and lying all over the road. On receiving the information, the Hinjili police reached the scene, recovered the dead body and sent it to the Berhampur Hospital for post-mortem.
After the post-mortem, the dead body was handed over to the family members. The police are investigating the incident by checking the CCTV footage from various places in the nearby area to find the vehicle that hit him.
Meanwhile, the police found the number plate of a goods vehicle registered under Balasore Regional Transport at some distance from the incident site. The police suspect that it is the number of the goods vehicle that caused the accident. Apart from this, there is an urgent need for speed bumps to reduce the speed of vehicles plying at high speed near some crowded intersections like Manik Nagar Chhak. A case has been registered at Hinjilicut police station under case no. 100/25.
