A tragic incident unfolded in Kalapathar village under Birmaharajpur police limits, where 76-year-old Shyam Padhan drowned while bathing in the village pond.

The elderly man was alone at the time of the accident, and no one was present nearby to assist.

Local resident Milan Padhan discovered the incident and pulled Shyam out of the water. Despite calling for an ambulance, delays prompted ward member Surya Narayan Padhan and Shyam’s son Makardwaj Padhan to rush him to Birmaharajpur hospital on a motorcycle. Unfortunately, doctors declared him dead upon arrival.

Police have seized the body and handed it over to the family after conducting a post-mortem. Villagers performed the cremation near the village. Authorities have registered an unnatural death case and launched an investigation.
