Eight families from the Padmapur area in Rayagada district approached the administration after facing social boycott for inter‑caste marriages.
The families alleged that community leaders ostracised them, barring participation in social functions, village feasts, and family celebrations.
Victims said they endured mental, economic, and social harassment, living under fear and isolation. While many families remained silent due to social pressure, eight families raised their voices against the discrimination. They submitted a memorandum to Additional District Magistrate Nabin Chandra Nayak during a grievance redressal meeting at Gudari block, demanding justice and protection.
Community leaders of the Arya Tailik Vaishya society defended the boycott, claiming it followed traditional rules and collective decisions of members. However, district officials assured immediate action. Gudari Sub‑Collector Dudhal Abhishek Dillip confirmed that the administration has taken the complaint seriously and initiated an investigation. He said both sides will be called for discussions to reach a peaceful resolution.
