Bhubaneswar: The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has carried 183.28 million tonne of freight traffic up to the end of February, 2021 of the current financial year, i.e. from 1st April, 2020 to 28th February, 2021 by carrying 1.18 million tonne more than the corresponding period of last financial year registering a growth of 0.6%.
In the month of February, 2021 only; i.e. from 1st to 28th February, 2021, East Coast Railway has carried 18.62 million tonne of freight registering a growth of 5.4% from the corresponding period of last year, i.e. from 1st to 28th February, 2020.
To achieve this loading figure, East Coast Railway has utilised 10 thousand 16 Wagons per day in February, 2021 as against 9132 wagons during the correspondence period of last financial year. Similarly, up to the end of February, 2021; East Coast Railway has utilised about 8198 wagons per day from 1st April, 2020 to 28th February, 2021 and aims to load more rakes to achieve the goal.
Apart from this, Khurda Road Division has run 79 long haul trains in February, 2021 which is highest in any month with an average of 2.78 trains per day. To transport more freight to different destinations in a minimum time period with maximum train speed, 79 rakes having an average of 118 wagons each have been utilized by Khurda Road Division. Similarly, Waltair & Sambalpur Division have also used this formula to transport more freight to achieve the goal. The freight transported are coal, iron ore, lime stone etc from the major loading points like Keonjhar, Dhamara, Pradeep, Talcher etc., from the jurisdiction of Khurda Road Division.
This has been achieved despite lockdown and closure & less workforce in industries and in mineral units under East Coast Railway jurisdiction. To get this remarkable performance, East Coast Railway has utilized its manpower and rolling stock items with proper planning and coordination with Govt Sectors and Industries.
Under the able leadership & guidance of its General Manager Shri Vidya Bhushan, East Coast Railway has achieved the remarkable performance. Apart from this, the Business Development Units of East Coast Railway integrating innovative policy making with stability and certainty in the logistics sectors by attracting new avenues for modal transit from rail to road.
