The Election Commission of India (ECI) has launched an unprecedented training program for Booth Level Agents (BLAs) from Bihar, aiming to enhance grassroots engagement in the electoral process. Around 280 BLAs representing 10 recognized political parties are participating in the two-day workshop at the India International Institute for Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM), New Delhi.
Chief Election Commissioner Shri Gyanesh Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi, addressed the BLAs, emphasizing their crucial role in maintaining error-free electoral rolls and ensuring fair elections. The training, conceptualized during the Chief Electoral Officers (CEO) conference on March 4, 2025, covers topics such as the preparation, updating, and revision of electoral rolls, as well as the appeal process under sections 24(a) and 24(b) of the Representation of People Act, 1950.
The initiative marks a significant step in strengthening election management by equipping BLAs with the necessary legal and procedural knowledge. By empowering BLAs, the ECI aims to foster greater political party participation and ensure a transparent electoral process in the upcoming Bihar elections.
