A dramatic case unfolded at Dungripali railway station in Subarnapur district when railway security forces seized lakhs of rupees and foreign currency from a youth.
The accused initially escaped after tricking the police but was later arrested and produced in court.
Police identified the accused as Kuldeep, a native of Hardol district in Uttar Pradesh under the Barakhani police station, Khadiyanagla. Investigators revealed that Kuldeep had been working at Sumit Agency for a long time. On February 20, he allegedly broke into the agency’s drawer through a roof ventilator and stole nearly Rs 4 lakh.
The following night, Government Railway Police (GRP) Balangir intercepted Kuldeep at Dungripali station and seized ₹2,68,774 along with 19 pieces of foreign currency. Despite the seizure, Kuldeep managed to flee from the spot. Local police later tracked him down and arrested him.
Police registered Case No. 46 under sections 331(4)/305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Sub‑Inspector Ekadashia Padahan confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine the full extent of the theft and the source of the foreign currency.
