The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for an intense heatwave in Odisha, with temperatures set to soar by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius from March to May.
Jharsuguda has already recorded the highest temperature at 37°C, followed closely by Sambalpur at 36.4°C, and Bhubaneswar and Cuttack hovering around 34°C.
The IMD’s Regional Center in Bhubaneswar has forecasted dry weather over most districts, with no rainfall expected in the next seven days. This early onset of rising temperatures suggests a prolonged heatwave, potentially breaking previous records.
Despite cooler mornings, the heat has become unbearable as the day progresses, making it challenging for residents to step outside even at 10 am. With minimum temperatures on the rise across Odisha, the conditions are ripe for a severe heatwave to form, though no official notification has been released by the IMD.
