Sweden’s Armand Duplantis achieved a remarkable feat at the All-Star Perche meet on Friday, setting a new world pole vault record of 6.27 meters.
This marks the 11th time Duplantis has broken the world record, solidifying his status as one of the sport’s greatest athletes.
The two-time Olympic and world champion cleared the record height on his first attempt, surpassing his previous mark of 6.26 meters set in Silesia in August. The record-breaking jump was met with a spectacular celebration featuring track-side fireworks.
In a competition where six men cleared 5.91 meters or higher for the first time, Emmanouil Karalis of Greece finished second with a national record clearance of 6.02 meters.
Duplantis, 25, also marked the day by releasing his first song, “Bop”, under his nickname “Mondo.” He cleared heights of 5.65 meters, 5.91 meters, 6.02 meters, and 6.07 meters with ease. With victory secured, he raised the bar to 6.27 meters for his world-record attempt, accompanied by his song playing over the arena’s sound system.
Duplantis has incrementally improved the world record by a centimeter on each of his 11 attempts since 2020, with four of these achievements occurring in the past 11 months. The previous world record of 6.16 meters was held by France’s Renaud Lavillenie, set in 2014.
