The Commissionerate Police has solved the case of a robbery involving a Cuttack-based businessman, Niranjan Goyal, who was allegedly looted at gunpoint in his apartment in the Badambadi Bikas Nagar area.
Three individuals, including the businessman’s driver, have been apprehended for their involvement in the crime.
The incident occurred when miscreants barged into Goyal’s residence, assaulted him, and stole Rs 5 lakh in cash, along with keys and a mobile phone. The quick and meticulous investigation by the police, aided by clues from CCTV footage and technical data, unraveled the insider conspiracy.
During interrogation, the arrested driver from Dhenkanal confessed to plotting the robbery with two accomplices, exploiting his employer’s routine of bringing cash home on weekends. The driver feigned a chase to divert suspicion, but evidence from the scene, including a toy gun used in the crime, led to their eventual capture.
Cuttack Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) revealed that the investigation is ongoing, with efforts to recover the stolen money and identify any further suspects.
The incident serves as a reminder to tighten security within residential complexes and underscores the importance of trust and vigilance in dealing with personal staff.
