Police arrested five persons, including the husband of a woman whose partially burnt body was discovered in Jari Panchayat under Binjharpur police limits.
The victim, originally from Rajkanika in Kendrapada district, had been married to Dinabandhu Samal of Jari Panchayat for 15 years.
Her family accused Samal and his relatives of murder, alleging that she faced continuous physical and mental torture over dowry demands. They claimed her husband pressured her to bring ₹50,000 from her father.
On Wednesday, her burnt body was found in the backyard of her home, prompting police to launch an investigation. Officers arrested Dinabandhu Samal along with four others. Interrogation is underway to determine their role in the crime.
The case has sparked outrage in the region, with locals demanding strict action against those responsible. Authorities confirmed that dowry-related harassment remains a serious issue, and investigations will continue to uncover the full circumstances behind the death.
