In a refreshing and candid conversation between India’s legendary off-spinners Harbhajan Singh and Ravichandran Ashwin, the two finally addressed the long-standing social media chatter around their so-called “rivalry” and claims of jealousy.
In a teaser of Ashwin’s popular YouTube series Kutti Stories, the Chennai spinner brought up the rumours that have often painted Harbhajan as “jealous” of Ashwin’s success, especially after he became India’s second-highest wicket-taker.
Ashwin started off by saying, “People often project their own thoughts and assume others think the same. That’s how this jealousy theory started.” He then asked Harbhajan directly: “Do you think you are jealous of me?”
To that, Harbhajan responded with a smile, “You’re sitting right here with me. Do you think I’m that kind of person?”
Ashwin’s reply was mature and thought-provoking: “Even if you were jealous, it would’ve been justified. We’re all human. Emotions are real.”
He further explained how public opinion often misinterprets situations. Citing his own example, Ashwin mentioned that some fans believed he retired due to the rise of Washington Sundar — again a misread of circumstances.
This heartfelt exchange has struck a chord with fans, with many appreciating the honesty and mutual respect between two greats of Indian cricket.
