The political climate in the Rajya Sabha turned turbulent as Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar’s sudden resignation triggered sharp reactions across party lines.
The controversy centres around the BJP National President and Union Minister J.P. Nadda, who allegedly failed to attend key parliamentary meetings, further fueling speculation.
On Monday, during the opening of the monsoon session, opposition members created a ruckus in both Houses. In the Rajya Sabha, Dhankhar, while presiding, expressed readiness to discuss all issues. J.P. Nadda stated that only his statement would be recorded. As the NDA leader in the Rajya Sabha, Union Minister J.P. Nadda declared that no other statements would be recorded except his own.
Later, when Dhankhar called for a meeting with NDA leaders, including Nadda and Kiren Rijiju, the morning session saw partial attendance. However, Nadda did not attend the follow-up meeting scheduled at 4:30 PM, leading to further tension. Reports suggest Dhankhar felt insulted and may have resigned in protest.
On Tuesday, Nadda clarified that he had already informed Dhankhar’s office about his inability to attend the later meeting. Yet, opposition parties continue to raise questions about his conduct and the broader implications for parliamentary decorum.
