The sacred city of Kashi is preparing for a breathtaking Dev Deepawali celebration on November 5, 2025, blending ancient traditions with cutting-edge technology and a message of sustainability.

According to the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department, more than 10 lakh diyas (earthen lamps) will light up the city’s famous Ganga ghats, creating a spellbinding view that symbolizes devotion, unity, and hope.

A Grand Display of Faith and Technology

This year’s theme, “Faith Meets Innovation,” promises a spectacular experience for both devotees and tourists.

  • Around 8 lakh diyas will illuminate 88 main ghats, managed by 83 local committees.

  • Another 2 lakh diyas will adorn 97 key spots across the city, including roads, government buildings, and the riverfront.

The highlight of the evening will be the “Kashi Katha” 3D projection and laser show, starting at 7:30 PM, followed by eco-friendly green fireworks at 8:00 PM near Ganga Dwar. The fireworks are designed to minimize air pollution while keeping the festive spirit alive.

Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh said,

“This Dev Deepawali will showcase Kashi in its most organized and immersive form, allowing every visitor to experience devotion with comfort, safety, and sustainability.”

Inclusive and Sustainable Celebration

This grand festival also supports local artisans and women’s self-help groups, who are crafting the diyas by hand. Thousands of potter families have been involved, reflecting the spirit of inclusive growth and community empowerment.

The ghats and opposite banks have been divided into 20 sectors, each managed by nodal officers to ensure smooth crowd flow and safety. Collective Ganga Aarti ceremonies will take place at eight major ghats, including Dashashwamedh, Assi, and Namo Ghats.

Rural Tourism and Cultural Revival

To promote Rural Tourism, the UP Tourism Department is organizing traditional celebrations in nearby villages such as Madhopur, Chandrawati, Umrah, and Rahati.

  • At Shooltankeshwar Mahadev Temple Ghat in Madhopur, 500 diyas will illuminate the riverbank during a Heritage Storytelling session narrating the legend of Shooltankeshwar Mahadev.

  • In Shravan Dham, Chuitipara (Ambedkar Nagar), over 21,000 diyas will light up the night along with Bhajan Sandhya, folk dances, and a Rangoli competition celebrating rural art and devotion.

Spiritual Significance of Dev Deepawali

Celebrated on Kartik Purnima, fifteen days after Diwali, Dev Deepawali is also known as the “Diwali of the Gods.” It marks Lord Shiva’s victory over the demon Tripurasura, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil. On this sacred night, it is believed that divine beings descend to bathe in the Ganga River.

The ritual of Deepdan (offering of lamps) honors Lord Shiva and Maa Ganga, turning the ghats into a celestial landscape of light. The ceremony also pays tribute to India’s martyrs, making it a day of both spiritual and national pride.

Visitor Information and Weather Forecast

For those planning to visit Varanasi, weather conditions are ideal.

  • Daytime temperature: around 29°C

  • Night temperature: around 20°C

  • Sky: clear with 0% chance of rain

Visitors can enjoy the “Kashi Katha” 3D shows at 7:30 PM, 8:30 PM, and 9:30 PM, and the green fireworks at 8:00 PM.

Experience the Magic of Kashi

This Dev Deepawali 2025 promises to be an unforgettable fusion of light, devotion, and sustainability. Whether you seek a spiritual journey, a cultural experience, or simply the beauty of millions of lamps glowing along the Ganga, Kashi is ready to welcome the world with open arms and radiant light.
