Dense fog disrupted air travel in Delhi on Saturday, December 20, and authorities cancelled 130 flights at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport.
Officials confirmed that poor visibility forced the cancellation of 66 arrivals and 63 departures. Consequently, thousands of passengers faced delays and reschedules.
Meanwhile, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and several airlines issued advisories across North India. At 11 am, AAI posted on X that reduced visibility could impact flight operations at multiple airports, leading to possible disruptions.
Furthermore, AAI urged passengers to stay in touch with their airlines for real-time updates. It advised travellers to rely on official communication channels and allow extra time for airport formalities. In addition, AAI deployed dedicated passenger facilitation teams to assist and support stranded travellers.
As a result, the cancellations highlighted the severe impact of winter fog on air travel in the region. Airlines struggled to maintain schedules, and passengers experienced significant inconvenience.
Nevertheless, authorities assured travellers that safety remains the top priority. They requested patience and cooperation as teams worked to manage operations under challenging weather conditions.
