Security agencies in the national capital were put on high alert on Friday after the Delhi High Court and several other sensitive locations received bomb threats, just a day before Independence Day celebrations.

The Delhi High Court received a threat through email, with the message carrying the subject line “30 MB Blast at the Delhi High Court.” The email claimed that a blast would take place at 2.11 pm.

Delhi High Court Bar Association Joint Secretary Kunal Malhotra said the threat appeared to be fake, while emphasising that precautionary measures had been put in place.

“All precautions have been taken and necessary measures have been put in place,” Malhotra said.

Five other locations receive threats

According to the Delhi Fire Service, threats were also reported at five other locations — Jamnagar House, Jhandewalan Flatted Factory Complex, MB Saket Office/DM Office, Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport and the SDM Office in Delhi Cantonment.

Fire tenders were dispatched to the locations following the alerts, news agency ANI reported.

The threats came as Delhi intensified security arrangements ahead of Independence Day on August 15, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address the nation from the Red Fort.

Security tightened across Delhi

Police personnel have been deployed at strategic locations across the capital, while security checks have been intensified at entry and exit points.

Security teams are also maintaining a close watch on crowded public places and locations expected to witness increased movement ahead of the Independence Day celebrations.

The latest incident adds to a series of bomb threat alerts reported in Delhi and neighbouring areas in recent weeks.

Delhi has witnessed several bomb threat alerts

On August 3, the Office of the Delhi Mayor received an anonymous bomb threat through email. The authorities immediately alerted Delhi Police and other security agencies, following which security protocols were activated.

Several schools in Delhi also received bomb threats on the same day. Security teams conducted searches, but no suspicious objects were found, according to authorities.

On July 31, the Gurugram deputy commissioner’s office, Haryana courts and several schools received bomb threat emails. The threats were later found to be hoaxes.

With Independence Day celebrations scheduled for Saturday, security agencies are maintaining heightened vigilance across Delhi and surrounding areas.
