The Delhi Capitals (DC) continued their remarkable consistency in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) by securing a spot in the 2026 final with a commanding 7-wicket victory over the Gujarat Giants (GG) in the Eliminator at Kotambi Stadium.

Chasing a target of 169, DC reached the mark in just 15.4 overs, showcasing a blend of aggressive batting and disciplined bowling that has become their hallmark.

Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, DC captain Jemimah Rodrigues set the tone early. The Giants, led by Australian all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner, posted 168/7 in their 20 overs. Beth Mooney anchored the innings with an unbeaten 62, supported by contributions from Georgia Wareham (35) and others. However, DC’s bowlers, including Chinelle Henry with a three-wicket haul, kept the scoring in check and prevented GG from building momentum.

In response, DC’s openers Shafali Verma (31 off 21) and Lizelle Lee (43 off 24) provided a blistering start, putting the pressure back on GG’s bowlers. Jemimah Rodrigues then played a crucial knock of 41 off 23 balls, while Laura Wolvaardt remained unbeaten on 32 to guide the team home with 26 balls to spare. Marizanne Kapp sealed the win with a boundary off Wareham, who finished with 2/28.

This win marks DC’s fourth straight appearance in the WPL final since the league’s inception in 2023, underlining their status as perennial contenders. Having finished as runners-up in 2023 and 2024, the Capitals are yet to claim their maiden title but will face Royal Challengers Bangalore in the summit clash on February 5 at the same venue.

GG, who had won both their league encounters against DC this season, including a narrow three-run victory on January 27, couldn’t replicate that form in the knockout stage. Sophie Devine’s all-round efforts in those games had been pivotal, but DC’s clinical performance ensured there would be no repeat heroics.

Post-match, Rodrigues praised her team’s composure: “We’ve been consistent throughout, and today was about executing our plans. We’re excited for the final.” GG captain Gardner reflected on the loss, saying, “We fought hard, but credit to DC—they were better on the day.”

With this result, the stage is set for an electrifying final, as DC aims to break their title drought against a formidable RCB side.
