Tensions flared once again along the Line of Control (LoC) as the Pakistani Army resorted to unprovoked firing during the night of May 7–8, just a day after India’s precision strikes under Operation Sindoor.
According to official sources, multiple sectors in Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, and Akhnoor witnessed intense cross-border firing involving both small arms and artillery guns. The Indian Army responded proportionately, effectively targeting the source of the aggression.
Heavy shelling also targeted civilian areas, particularly in the Karnah region, prompting authorities to initiate emergency evacuations in affected zones. Residents in Poonch district were seen moving to safer locations amid the escalating situation.
Earlier on Wednesday, India launched Operation Sindoor, striking nine terror infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 civilians.
Retaliatory shelling from Pakistan was also reported in Krishna Ghati, Shahpur, and Mankote in Poonch, as well as Laam, Manjakote, and Gambeer Brahmana in Rajouri, shortly after the Indian air and missile strikes.
The latest round of violence highlights the fragile state of ceasefire agreements and underscores the Indian armed forces’ readiness to respond firmly to any cross-border aggression.
