Chandigarh: Punjab government on Monday imposed daily lockdown in the state from 6 pm to 5 am till further orders. Â
In addition to this the Captain Amarinder Singh government has also declared a weekend lockdown from Friday 6 pm to Monday 5 am.
Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar said shops and business establishments in the state will have to be closed by 5 pm every day. The existing night curfew has been extended by two hours.
Chief Minister Amarinder Singh appealed to the people of Punjab to stay at home and fully cooperate to banish coronavirus.
The Chief Minister during a cabinet meet said he was against imposing a lockdown as it causes economic hardships and leads to the exodus of migrant workers.
Punjab now has a cumulative case tally of 3,39,090 along with 8,432 deaths. Singh said the coronavirus situation is likely to become worse in the state in the days to come.
