The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall across Odisha due to an active cyclonic circulation over the northwestern Bay of Bengal.
The system is expected to influence the state’s weather from June 16 to 19, reviving the southwest monsoon after a 17-day lull.

In response to the approaching system, Orange and Yellow alerts have been issued across multiple districts:

Heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds (30–40 kmph) expected in:-

The southwest monsoon, which had stalled since late May, is now forecast to resume over Odisha. The cyclonic circulation has created favourable conditions for its advancement into both interior and coastal districts.
Earlier, weak moisture incursion had delayed the monsoon’s progress, but the current system is expected to enhance rainfall significantly over the coming days.
