The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast the formation of a low-pressure area over the south Bay of Bengal within the next 48 hours, owing to an upper air cyclonic circulation extending to middle tropospheric levels.
The system is expected to bring widespread rainfall, isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds to the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Heavy rainfall and squally weather with wind speeds ranging from 35–45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph, are likely to persist over the Andaman Sea and the southeast Bay of Bengal from April 6–9. Maritime activities have been advised to take precautions.
Meanwhile, a new Western Disturbance is predicted to affect the Western Himalayan region starting April 8, leading to thunderstorms, gusty winds, and light-to-moderate rainfall in Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand between April 9–10. Temperatures in Northwest India, Maharashtra, and South Peninsular India are expected to rise gradually over the next four days before a subsequent decline.
